About the awards
Given by: The fifth annual Top 100 women awards are given by the Women's Executive Network, a Toronto-based networking and advocacy group founded in 1997 by Pamela Jeffery.
How winners are chosen: The 100 honorees, divided into eight categories, are chosen by an independent advisory board under the leadership of the WXN.
In three categories, winners are selected directly by the board. In Corporate Executives, the WXN identifies women in senior positions at the top 30 public and private companies as listed in the Report on Business magazine. In Entrepreneurs, their selection is based on data in Profit magazine. For Public Sector Leaders, they are chosen based on the size of the operating budgets for which they are responsible.
In five other categories - Arts and Communications, Champions, Future Leaders, Professionals, and Trailblazers and Trendsetters - contenders are nominated by the public and winners are selected by the board.
New this year: The WXN's new Hall of Fame honours 44 women who have won the Top 100 award three or more times. Their names and details can be found online at: www.globeandmail.com or www.wxnetwork.com .
