Just a couple items to kick off this Wednesday in weed, one involving a recent arrival to Canada’s largest stock exchange and another breaking down a PR firm’s latest cannabis-related upgrade.

Global Public Affairs expands cannabis practice

Already among the first and most cannabis-focused PR firms in the country, Global Public Affairs announced a substantial increase to its cannabis resources on Tuesday evening. Elaine Larsen joins the team after spending nearly five years working with government relations firm The Capital Hill Group in Ottawa. Larsen, who also holds a Master of Political Management from Carlton University and previously worked with the European Union during trade negotiations with Canada, will be based out of GPA’s Ottawa office. Back in Toronto, meanwhile, veteran broadcaster and current GPA Chair Tom Clark will be adding a strategic advisory element to his role, specifically in the cannabis practice. Tom will leverage his decades of television experience to help with executive media coaching and other strategic advice for cannabis clients.

Zenabis to ring TSX opening bell

Barely one week after officially graduating from the TSX Venture to the main Toronto Stock Exchange, executives from Vancouver-based Zenabis Global will be ringing the TSX opening bell this morning to mark the launch of Wednesday trading. Since moving to the TSX as of May 27 under the ticker “ZENA”, the company’s shares have lost roughly 6 per cent of their value, falling from $1.74 per share to $1.63 as of Tuesday’s close. The company reported better-than-expected first quarter results for its 2019 fiscal year last Thursday, May 30, according to Graeme Kreindler of Eight Capital. Zenabis announced higher revenue, better gross margins and a lower net loss than the analyst was expecting.
