National League San Diego Padres transferred left-handed pitcher Sterling Hitchcock from the 15-to the 60-day disabled list. Purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Carlos Reyes from Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League. Optioned right-handed pitcher Domingo Guzman to Las Vegas.

FOOTBALL National Football League Cleveland Browns cut defensive end Mike Gantous, linebacker Marcus Gunn, fullback Mike Jones, linebacker Caspor Stiles and linebacker Lamont Turner.

HOCKEY National Hockey League Minnesota Wild signed goaltender Derek Gustafson and left-winger Randy Fitzgerald. New York Islanders re-signed defenceman Eric Cairns to a two-year contract.

US COLLEGE Tulsa announced the resignation of Bill Self, men's basketball coach, to take the same position at Illinois.
