The Calgary Flames selected Samuel Honzek with the No. 16 pick in the 2023 NHL draft Wednesday.

Honzek, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound forward, had 23 goals and 56 points in 43 games for the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants in 2022-23.

The 18-year-old Slovakian has twice represented his country at the world junior hockey championship.

“The thing I was dreaming of a long time,” Honzek said of being drafted. “Now it’s finally true.”
