Amid U.S. unrest over the death of George Floyd, Vanessa Bryant shared a photo of her late husband Kobe wearing an “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirt.

Her Instagram post included a reminder that life is short and unpredictable.

The photo of Kobe was taken before a Los Angeles Lakers game in December, 2014. The T-shirt referenced the final words of Eric Garner, who died in police custody in New York in July, 2014.

Bryant, 41, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others died in a helicopter crash in California on Jan. 26.

Another basketball icon spoke up on Sunday. Basketball great Michael Jordan voiced outrage over Floyd’s death. Jordan said his heart went out to the family of Floyd and others who have died through acts of racism.

“I am deeply saddened, truly pained and plain angry,” Jordan, a Basketball Hall of Famer and owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, said in a statement. “I see and feel everyone’s pain, outrage and frustration.

“I stand with those who are calling out the ingrained racism and violence toward people of colour in our country. We have had enough.”
