Hannah Riordan of Cornwall, Ont., lead Canada to a bronze medal finish in the women's 4X100 freestyle relay on Saturday at the world junior swimming championships.

Riordan, 16, lead off Hillary Bell and Paige Schultz, both of Toronto, and Alexandra Gabor of Whitehorse. The team finished in 3:47.30 behind first place U.S. (3:43.54) and Germany (3:46.63) in second.

"It was a great time for us," said Riordan, who also placed seventh in the women's backstroke final. "All of us did a better time than in the prelims. Our goal was to get the medal after we finished second in the prelims."

It was Canada's fifth bronze of the competition.

In the women's 50-metre backstroke final, Tess Simpson of Cornwall, Ont., finished fourth for the top Canadian mark. Grace Loh of Australia won the gold followed by Etienne Medeiros of Brazil and Elizabeth Pelton of the U.S. in second and third respectively.

In the women's 50 freestyle, Riordan clocked 25.94 seconds, just 0.03 seconds off the days fastest time and a half second off the Canadian senior record, to finish second and advance to Sunday's final.

In the women's 100 butterfly semifinal, Kendra Chernoff of Saskatoon and Vanessa Charron of Quebec City finished seventh and eighth respectively to advance to Sunday's final.
