The Vancouver Canucks signed free-agent centre Herbert Vasiljevs yesterday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 25-year-old Vasiljevs had four goals, five assists and 14 penalty minutes in 21 games with Atlanta last season. In 33 career games in the NHL, Vasiljevs has five goals, five assists and 20 penalty minutes. He was signed by Florida as a free agent in 1996 and traded to Atlanta in 1999, along with Gord Murphy, Daniel Tjarnqvist and a draft choice, in exchange for goalie Trevor Kidd.
