The biggest name in the field is headed to the final round of the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championships at Mesquite, Nev.
Bryson DeChambeau tied for fourth in his group Thursday to qualify for the 16-player championship round on Friday.
His longest drives of the day traveled 359 and 358 yards.
Thursday was the third day of the event that has each player take five sets six five shots each. DeChambeau entered the event with just one day of rest after helping the United States team win the Ryder Cup in Wisconsin.
“I’m getting tired, I can tell you that,” DeChambeau said Thursday, according to ESPN. “It’s an endurance battle. These guys have some higher speeds and more endurance than me. They’ve trained for this a lot longer.
“It’s definitely just an honor to get to the last round. I did not think I was going to get to the final round, but the conditions were right for me and worked out pretty well.”
DeChambeau, who turned 28 two weeks ago, ranks among the longest hitters on the PGA Tour. He owns eight career PGA Tour victories, including the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
