PGA of Canada 2011 champion Vincent Dumouchel
Vincent Dumouchel of Candiac, Que. will be back to defend his PGA Championship of Canada later this month at the Talons Course at Country Hills Golf Club in Calgary.
Currently ninth in the PGA of Canada Player Rankings, Dumouchel will be looking to become the first back-to-back winner of the P.D. Ross Trophy since George Knudson did it back in 1976-77.
Jacklyn Miller of the North Bay Golf & Country Club will become the first female participant in the championship's 91-year history when she tees it up in her first round match.
As was the case in 2011, this year's championship will be contested as a match play event with players from four brackets – Stan Leonard, George Knudson, Al Balding and Moe Norman – looking to advance through the five rounds to the final championship match.
At the conclusion of the event, the player who sits atop the PGA of Canada Player Rankings will earn an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ont., which will be played July 23-29.
While current No.1-ranked Brian McCann holds an 11-point lead over Daniel King, it's possible any player ranked 12th or better could earn the exemption with a win in Calgary.
The PGA Championship, which was first held back in 1912 at Mississauga Golf & Country Club, was resurrected last year following a four year hiatus after the event lost its title sponsor.
