Capitals winger Tom Wilson has a disciplinary hearing with the NHL to discuss his hit on Flyers forward Brayden Schenn.

Wilson hit Schenn from behind during Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia, earning a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. He has a phone hearing with the department of player safety, which limits any potential suspension to five or fewer games.

The former Plymouth Whalers star has not addressed the hit with reporters. Coach Adam Oates said after the Capitals' 5-2 loss at Wells Fargo Center that he thought it was a clean hit.

Schenn slammed into the boards and fell three times when trying to get back to the Flyers' bench. He did not return to the game but reported feeling fine Wednesday and could play Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Wilson has a goal and three assists in 34 games as a rookie this season. He has no prior history of supplemental discipline in the NHL but was suspended five games in the OHL last January for a hit from behind.

The Toronto native was a first-round pick in the 2012 draft.
