The Philadelphia Flyers and right wing Jakub Voracek have agreed to a multiyear contract extension.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed Thursday but according to several media reports it is an eight-year deal worth as much as US$66-million.

Varacek's deal puts him alongside teammate Claude Giroux's eight-year, $66.2-million contract, which runs through 2021-22.

"We didn't expect to get Jake at a low number," general manager Ron Hextall told NHL.com. "We knew this was coming. … I think when neither side is necessarily thrilled with the deal, you probably made a fair deal. And I think if you look at the market right now, this is a fair deal for us and a fair deal for Jake."

On Tuesday, the Flyers signed 22-year-old center Sean Couturier to a six year contract extension reportedly worth $26-million.

According to the website war-on-ice.com, the Flyers have now committed $61.2-million to 15 players for the 2016-17 season when Voracek's new deal is factored into the equation.

The 25-year-old Voracek had 22 goals and career highs of 59 assists and 81 points last season.

The 6-foot-2, 214-pound Czech right wing joined Philadelphia in June 2011 in a trade that sent Jeff Carter to Columbus. Voracek has 124 goals and 248 assists in 531 career games in seven seasons with Columbus and Philadelphia. He has four goals and 11 assists in 22 playoff games.
