The New York Rangers signed free-agent Vaclav Prospal, the team announced Monday.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

Prospal, 34, had 19 goals and 26 assists with Tampa Bay last season. The Lightning bought out the last three years of Prospal's four-year contract earlier this summer.

The six-foot-two, 198-pound forward has 198 goals and 401 assists in 874 career games with Philadelphia, Ottawa, Florida, Anaheim and Tampa.

"Vinny is a highly-skilled player with good offensive instincts and the ability to play on the wing or at the centre position," Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather said in a statement. "We think he will give us added flexibility and brings a veteran presence to our lineup."

Prospal won a bronze medal with the Czech Republic team at the 2006 Torino Olympic Games.

Prospal was Philadelphia's third-round choice, 71st overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
