Canada's goaltender Eric Comrie makes a glove save during the team's practiceThe Canadian Press

Eric Comrie will get the start for Canada's crucial New Years Eve showdown against the United States at the world junior hockey championship.

Coach Benoit Groulx said he considers both his goalies equal and opted to continue alternating between Comrie and Zach Fucale.

The Winnipeg Jets draft pick will be making his second start of the tournament, having backstopped Canada to a 4-0 win over Germany on Saturday.

Fucale turned aside 27 of 28 shots in a 4-1 win over Finland on Monday night and between them, Fucale and Comrie have given up just one goal in three games. Fucale was also in the nets for Canada's 8-0 win against Slovakia in the tournament opener last Friday.

Wednesday's game should prove to be Canada's toughest to date with the winner clinching first place in the group, thus assuring themselves an easier path to the semi-finals. The first place team will play the fourth place team from Group B in the quarter-finals.
