Filip Peliwo's first Rogers Cup experience didn't last long.
The 18-year-old from North Vancouver, B.C., dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Croatia's Ivan Dodig in the first round of qualifying Saturday.
Peliwo, who became the first Canadian male to win Wimbledon's junior title last month, was one of four Canadians granted wild card status.
In other early qualifying action involving Canadians, Milan Pokrajac of Mississauga, Ont., lost 6-2, 6-1 to Estonia's Jurgen Zopp, while Pavel Krainik of Thornhill, Ont., fell 6-2, 6-3 to Italy's Fabio Fognini.
Montreal's Erik Chvojka also failed to advance, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to Australia's Matthew Ebden.
In a late match, Pierre-Ludovic Duclos of Sainte-Foy, Que., fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Italy's Flavio Cipolla.
In qualifying for the women's event in Montreal, hometown player Francoise Abanda moved on to the second round thanks to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Poland's Alicja Rosolska.
Meanwhile, Erin Routliffe of Guelph, Ont., beat Megan Moulton-Levy of the U.S. 6-3, 6-4 to also advance.
But Carol Zhao of Richmond Hill, Ont., wasn't as fortunate, losing 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Spain's Estrella Cabeza Candela.
Toronto's Sharon Fichman, fresh off an exhibition match with Martina Hingis, lost 7-5, 6-1 to Georgia's Anna Tatishvili, while Sonja Molnar of Guelph, Ont., lost 6-3, 6-3 to Croatia's Mirjana Lucic.
In other matches involving Canadians, American Melanie Oudin beat Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski 6-3, 6-0, Hungary's Katalin Marosi defeated Marianne Jodoin of Longueuil, Que., 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and France's Aravane Rezai beat Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., 2-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (7).
