The peanut butter is rich and creamy, the sriracha lends the contrasting spice.for The Globe and Mail

Peanut butter and sriracha – seriously? Yes, seriously. If you've never tried (or heard of such a thing), then it's time to switch things up. This twist adds more of a savoury vibe to breakfast. It's simple and, trust me, delicious. The peanut butter is rich and creamy, the sriracha lends the contrasting spice and adding some arugula (or cilantro) clinches the deal with fresh, clean finesse. Next, you might add sriracha to plain oatmeal and pop a fried egg on top – or mix in some cashews (or that peanut butter we just talked about). Try it, I bet you'll like it.

Nothing fancy here. You can assemble this to your tastes, though I do suggest a whole-grain or seed bread for the toast, and the greens really do make the dish.

Ingredients

Peanut butter

Sriracha

Bread

Arugula

Method

Spread toast with peanut butter, dot with sriracha (as little or as much as you like) and add the arugula.

Once assembled, you can drizzle with a bit of fresh lime juice or even add a few slices of banana for contrasting sweetness. A sprinkle of sea salt is a nice final touch.
