Mounties in Coquitlam, B.C., are looking to speak with witnesses after a hit-and-run that left two people dead.

The incident happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when a grey truck turning on to Austin Avenue from Gatensbury Street struck two pedestrians, according to Coquitlam RCMP. The pedestrians died at the scene.

The driver of the truck initially fled the scene but was located a short time later. Police are now looking to speak with witnesses to determine what happened.

Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services is investigating the crash with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Austin Avenue is expected to remain closed between Schoolhouse and Marmont streets until at least early evening.
