A portion of the Union Station revitalization project is running 10 months behind due to "disorganization," the chair of the city's public works committee said Wednesday.

According to Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, the completion date for the west concourse of Union Station – where GO trains arrive and depart – is now set at October of this year. It was originally intended to be completed by January.

There's been a certain level of disorganization that has delayed that project," Mr. Minnan-Wong told reporters Wednesday. "We need to get those things – those problems, that disorganization – straightened out."

He blamed the delays on "challenges" with the general contractor – Carillion Canada, which was named in 2009 to oversee the project – and said that the city has the option of going with another contractor if the problems are not fixed.

Construction on the heritage building began in 2010.
