Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will officially kick off his campaign with a launch event next month in Etobicoke, his brother and campaign manager Doug Ford said Thursday.
"I invite Ford Nation out on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at night, and you'll see the real people talking. Not the media," Doug Ford told reporters at City Hall.
The event will take place at the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke.

Two of Mayor Ford's main rivals – Olivia Chow and John Tory – have already held their official campaign launches in the past week. Also in the race are Councillor Karen Stintz and former budget chief David Soknacki.
Both Councillor Ford and Mayor Ford dodged reporters' questions on the latest police documents involving the mayor Thursday. The newly unsealed document released Wednesday describes in detail the video that allegedly shows the mayor smoking crack cocaine. The document also shows an investigator's observation that the mayor's meetings with his friend, alleged drug dealer Alessandro Lisi, were "indicative of drug trafficking."
But when asked whether the mayor's supporters care about the latest drug scandal, Councillor Ford suggested that they wouldn't.
"They care about keeping taxes low, about keeping people held accountable here," he said. "And they care about the track record. We have a booming city here."
