The shortlist was announced yesterday for the Trillium Book Awards, which promote Ontario-based writers in both fiction and poetry. Winners in both the English- and French-language categories will be announced April 25 in Toronto; each will receive $20,000, with their publishers getting a $2,500 prize.

The English-language fiction nominees are F.T. Flahiff ( Always Someone to Kill the Doves), Camilla Gibb ( Sweetness in the Belly), David Gilmour ( A Perfect Night to Go to China), Sheila Heti ( Ticknor), Stephen Lewis ( Race Against Time) and Alayna Munce ( When I Was Young & In My Prime).

The English-language poetry nominees are Kevin Connolly ( drift), Patria Rivera ( Puti/White) and Karen Solie ( Modern and Normal). Staff
