A battle over an Ontario television news anchor that pitted CanWest, owner of Global TV, against rival CTV has been settled out of court, a lawyer for Global said on Friday.

Beverly Thomson, Global's star anchor, was hired away by CTV earlier this year, sparking CanWest to file an injunction in which it claimed Thomson was under an exclusive three-year contract when she was hired by CTV.

The injunction was set to be heard in Ontario Superior Court, but it didn't proceed because the parties involved reached an agreement late Thursday, said Global lawyer Adam Stephens.

"The parties early last (Thursday) evening were able to resolve the matter," Stephens said in an interview outside the courtroom.

Stephens had just informed the judge hearing the injunction that ``the issue had been resolved between the parties."

However, Stephens said he couldn't give details of the agreement, but that more information would be released later Friday.

Thomson, anchor of Global's 5:30 p.m. Ontario newcast, was hired earlier this summer by CTV to replace Lisa LaFlamme, the host of Canada AM, who will become a roving reporter for CTV News.

"It's an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Thomson has said. ``I've been thinking about this job for at least 10 years. I had wonderful experiences with Global but this one is national."

An earlier report said Global TV launched the injunction because it believed it had a solid three-year contract for Thomson's services. It was also reported that Global had been seeking compensation said to be in the seven-figure range.
