Kate, Will, Kim, and Kris: A tale of two weddings

The price tag

Estimates for Kate and Will's royal wedding on April 29 range from $15-million (U.S.) to $70-million (the latter probably closer to the mark), with the bulk of the costs covered by the Royal Family and the Middletons chipping in.

Kardshian's summer wedding to New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries is estimated to have cost between $6-million and $10-million.

The guest list

The much sought-after invitation with Buckingham Palace's stamp went out to 1,900 lucky guests, including Sir Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham, director Guy Ritchie and English soul singer Joss Stone.

Kardashian invited 450 guests (including Lindsay Lohan, Demi Lovato and Ryan Seacrest) to her extravagant nuptials in Montecito, Calif., on Aug. 20.

The look

Middleton opted to transform the aisle at Westminster Abbey into an "avenue of trees" with six maples and two hornbeams standing tall (some were eight metres high) above 30,000 flowers.

The colour scheme for the Kardashian bash at the $20-million mansion belonging to the former CEO of Google was silver, white and black, with thousands of white roses shipped in from South Africa.

The dress

Kate Middleton wowed in a sleek Grace Kelly-esque gown by Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton.

Reality queen Kardashian chose designs by family friend Vera Wang for the three different wedding dresses she wore during the day.

The ring

Kate wore Princess Diana's engagement ring, an 18-carat oval blue sapphire ring, surrounded by 14 small diamonds. "It's my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today," said Will.

Humphries proposed to Kardashian with a 20.5-carat diamond ring designed by Lorraine Schwartz and reportedly valued at $2-million. In the wake of the split, there's media speculation the striking NBA star wants it back, but Kim isn't coughing it up.

The cake

Prince William and his bride Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, ordered an eight-tier cake from Britain's renowned cake maker Fiona Cairns, who reportedly spent five weeks on the creation, which boasts over 900 leaf and floral touches and is topped with the couple's new cipher.

Kardashian's wedding cake – said to be modelled after Kate and Will's classier one – stood taller than the 5-foot-2-inch reality starlet. The six-foot-tall black and white confection came from Los Angeles's Hansen Cakes and reportedly cost a cool $20,000.

The viewers

The royal wedding had a global audience of over 1 billion, with millions on this side of the pond getting up in the middle of the night to take it in live.

E!'s Kim Kardashian wedding special brought in 4.4 million viewers on Sunday night and an additional 4 million Monday night.

The night(s) after

The Royals are eight months into married bliss and are still all smiles.

Kardashian and Humphries pulled the plug after a paltry 72 days, prompting cries it was all a publicity stunt.
