In what may be considered an extreme stupid human trick, a Winnipeg university professor spent more than 15 minutes in a tank of ice water on Thursday for an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman.
But for Gordon Giesbrecht, a thermophysiology professor known at the University of Manitoba as Professor Popsicle, only the TV cameras and New York location made his trip to the verge of hypothermia unusual.
The professor has lowered his body temperature dozens of times before while pursuing his research into the effects of cold on the human body. He said he agreed to Thursday night's stunt because it would allow him to prove to a wide audience that a fall through the ice isn't fatal within minutes. CP
