The St. Lawrence String Quartet is changing strings next fall, as Marina Hoover gives up her place in the cellist's chair to Italian Alberto Parrini.

Hoover, who is the first of the Canadian quartet's founding members to leave, will play her final concert with the group at the Banff Centre for the Arts on Aug. 6. Banff is a symbolic spot for the quartet, whose stellar career was launched by a first-place win at the first Banff International String Quartet Competition 10 years ago.

Parrini was one of 15 cellists sampled by the quartet as a replacement. He will join the group in September. Hoover plans to move to Chicago with her husband and two-year-old son. Staff
