Tony Award-winning musical Titanic coming to Toronto Add to ...

The Titanic only made one fateful voyage. But Titanic, the musical, is taking a second trip to Broadway – and it will be docking for six weeks in Toronto on its way there.

The Tony Award-winning musical will have its Canadian premiere at the Royal Alexandra theatre from July 22 to Aug. 31, producers David Mirvish and Barry and Fran Weissler announced Thursday. It will then settle into a New York run in fall 2014.

Titanic – with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Peter Stone – originally opened on Broadway in 1997, won five Tonys and ran for 804 performance and 27 previews. The new production will be directed by Thom Southerland, who revived the musical based on the true story of the 1912 sailing and sinking of the Titanic in London last year. The cast and the rest of the creative team will be announced at a later date.
