- The “triple threat” of a bad flu season, COVID-19 and the resurgence of RSV is putting a strain on the health system, Ontario’s Chief Medical officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore said Wednesday, with a decision on masking recommendations possibly coming in a couple of weeks.
- Many people who have had COVID-19 end up with lingering cognitive impairments, including brain fog, forgetting vocabulary or general sluggishness. On today’s episode of The Globe’s daily news podcast, The Decibel, Dr. Adrian Owen speaks about how the virus affects the brain.

Pandemic recovery
- By early next year, the small Cape Town-based company Afrigen Biologics & Vaccines hopes to start manufacturing its own drug that will protect people across the continent against future waves of COVID-19. With its made-in-Africa mRNA vaccines, the company wants to stand up to Big Pharma.
- Chinese policy-makers pledged on Wednesday that growth was still a priority and they would press on with reforms, helping further boost stock markets buoyed by hopes that Beijing will ease off on its strict COVID-19 measures.
- Canadian luxury parka maker Canada Goose trimmed its financial guidance for the year as COVID-19 restrictions in China and worries about the global economy weigh on the company.
