What is it
2016 Mazda CX-3: A pint-sized sport-utility vehicle that's even smaller than the compact Mazda CX-5. The popularity of teensy SUVs is exploding in Canada, so car companies are bringing a herd of them to showrooms, including this one and Honda's upcoming HR-V.
Signature feature
Not the KODO design language, or the SKYACTIV group of fuel-efficient technologies. Mazda says the CX-3 will entertain drivers like no other SUV of its kind.
What else is new
Cabin space in such a small package and a driver's position designed for easy use of controls and instruments, as well as excellent visibility. Just a bit bigger than a breadbox, this Mazda has room for four adults and is easy to enter and exit.
Under the hood
A 2.0-litre gasoline engine Mazda promises to be spirited and deliver excellent real-world fuel economy.
When can we buy it, and for how much
On sale in the spring of 2015, with yet-unannounced pricing likely starting in the mid-$20,000s.
Cool quotient: 3.0
