Like the Energizer bunny or a vintage steam engine (which was still in use around the time of her birth), Betty White just keeps going and going.

At the ripe old age of 91, the spry comedic actress has been named America's Most Appealing Celebrity, according to a recent survey conducted by E-Poll Market Research.

Currently starring on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland and hosting the hidden-camera prank show Betty White's Off Their Rockers, White narrowly edged out Oscar-winners Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks for the annual honour, which ranks some 7500 celebrities based on a national sample of 1100 American respondents aged 13 and up. White has won the award on two previous occasions.

Other celebrities finishing in the top ten include Morgan Freeman, Carol Burnett, Olympian Gabby Douglas and NCIS stars Cote de Pablo and Pauley Perrette. Also finishing in the top ten: singer Adele and Downton Abbey's Dame Maggie Smith, both of British birth.

At the top of the heap, however, was the indefatigable Ms. White, whose entertainment career began way, way back in 1939 when she and a high-school classmate performed songs from The Merry Widow on an early prototype of a TV station in Los Angeles.

Currently in her seventh decade in show business, White recently collected Screen Actors Guild awards for her work in Hot in Cleveland and hosted Saturday Night Live in 2010 following a mammoth Facebook campaign.

Among the biggest decliners in public appeal according to the E-Poll survey: Current American Idol judge Nicki Minaj and comic actor Andy Samberg, who left Saturday Night Live last spring following a seven-season run.
