The holiday season and Valentine's Day may be prime proposal times, but that hasn't stopped Tiffany & Co. from launching its new Bezet collection of engagement rings in the heart of spring.

"We were so excited to introduce another strong design to our legends that we didn't want to wait longer," says Andrea Hopson, vice-president of Tiffany & Co. Canada.

The new collection, featuring a variety of diamond cuts in streamlined platinum settings, is the latest in Tiffany's line of contemporary ring designs, including Étoile, Lucida, Legacy and Novo.

While the company's engagement rings start at $1,350, Bezet rings (shown above) range from $1,850 for a round cut to $5,400 for a heart-shaped diamond. The square princess cut is $2,050 and the pear shape is $5,050. The bands are $1,550.

"I think fancy cuts are particularly youthful," Hopson says, adding that diamonds under a carat offer the same pure quality as that of larger stones.

Dating to 1886, the classic six-pronged Tiffany Setting remains the most popular of the legendary jeweller's designs. According to the company, it was the first time a diamond was raised above the shank, allowing light to shine through all sides.

With Bezet, the diamonds are more enclosed, but the bezel settings feature apertures that expose the facets to light. "They have found a perfect union of modern and timeless elegance," Hopson says of the line's designers, whose work, to be sure, makes the act of proposing considerably easier.

Even if you aren't about to march down the aisle, however, Bezet's allure may be hard for some women to resist, Hopson adds. "I would like to suggest that it is just as attractive on the right hand as it is as an engagement ring," she says, demonstrating how one could be stacked with platinum, yellow or rose gold bands to create a very deluxe "fashion accessory."
