Quebec City's airwaves got leaner and cleaner yesterday. The city's most controversial shock jock, Jeff Fillion, the king of trash radio in Quebec, bowed out under public pressure.

At 8 a.m. yesterday, CHOI-FM's star morning man left his show a full two weeks before his anticipated departure.

"I came here this morning for one reason and that was to give my regards to my team and the listeners of CHOI Radio X, who gave me more than what a paycheque can offer. Thank you," Mr. Fillion said.

Last summer, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission revoked the station's licence because of Mr. Fillion's repeated offensive comments.

The station's owner, Genex Communications, is seeking a licence to open a new station in Gatineau and wants to clean up its image.
