The Globe's Economy Lab blog won an Eppy award for best business blog on Nov. 30, 2011.The Globe and Mail

One of The Globe and Mail's business blogs has been recognized as the best in its category in North America.

Economy Lab, which examines the forces at play in today's global economy, has won a prestigious EPpy award as Best Business Blog on a media website with more than a million unique monthly visitors.

The award was one of two EPpy awards that The Globe clinched when winners were announced Wednesday, more than any other Canadian news website.

The Globe's other EPpy award went to GlobeDrive.com for Best Automotive Website with more than a million unique monthly visitors.

The Edmonton Journal is the only other Canadian news outlet to get an EPpy this year, being named for Best Use of Photography on a website with 250,000 to a million unique monthly visitors.

The EPpy Best Media awards, delivered by the industry periodical Editor & Publisher, are considered one of the highest honours for media-affiliated websites and blogs. They were also the first awards to honour online journalistic work. The 2011 awards are the 16th edition of the annual EPpys.

The National Film Board of Canada was also honoured with two EPpys in the categories for sites with fewer than 250,000 monthly visitors, for Best Use of Photography on a Website and Best Entertainment Website.

The Globe was a finalist this year in 14 categories, the most nominated news organization after CNN.

Best Enterprise/Investigative Video ( Inside Hamas) with more than one million unique monthly visitors

Best News Video ( The Trials of Nunavut) with more than one million unique monthly visitors
