Toronto detectives are hunting the killer or killers of a 26-year-old man shot fatally late Thursday night at a townhouse complex in the Jane-Finch area.

Pronounced dead in hospital as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach, Andrew Stewart of Toronto is the city's 24th homicide victim of the year. He was shot at a townhouse complex at 2901 Jane St., at around 10 pm.

Shell casings were found at the crime scene but no arrests have been made. A car was seen driving away shortly afterward and detectives are looking for a suspect described as male, brown, 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-7, with a thin face and build, and short, braided hair.

Dozens of people gathered near where Mr. Stewart was shot. He was familiar with the area, police said, but there was no immediate indication as to why he was killed.
