The City of Toronto will not help pay for the funeral of Toronto-born child star Corey Haim, officials have confirmed.

In a statement released Monday morning, City officials clarified that the city "has never received an application for assistance with the funeral costs for Haim." On Sunday, they had refused to comment on the case for privacy reasons, but chose to clarify that they are not involved because of media reports.

A weekend report in multiple U.S. publications quoted Haim's mother, Judy Haim, as telling the TV show Access Hollywood that the city would help with costs.

Steeles Memorial Chapel, a Jewish funeral home in Thornhill, Ont., told The Globe and Mail it is handling Haim's funeral, but declined to release any specifics. The service will take place on Tuesday in Toronto.

Marla Stewart, a secretary at Steeles Memorial, also said the funeral home would "most likely" help Haim's family with the costs of the service, which it frequently does. As a not-for-profit organization, any profits it reaps tend to go "back into the community," Stewart said.

Michael Kronick, founder of the celebrity memorabilia website Startifacts.com, has confirmed his organization will also provide help with funeral costs.

In another report from UsMagazine.com, long-time friend and Lost Boys co-star Corey Feldman has said he will not attend Haim's funeral. Feldman said he would love "to be by [Judy Haim's]side at Corey's funeral," but that he was respecting the family's decision to keep the funeral "a small private affair." Haim's agent, Mark Heaslip, told the Globe a memorial service will be held in Los Angeles "around April 2 or 3."

Haim died on March 10 in Burbank, Calif., at age 38. Haim's mother was reportedly told by the coroner that her son had an enlarged heart and pulmonary congestion; other speculation has suggested his death might have been drug-related. Four prescription-drug bottles bearing Haim's name have been recovered, but no illegal drugs were found. Haim had openly admitted to battling drug addiction in the past.

Haim is best known for his role in Joel Schumacher's 1987 film The Lost Boys, and also appeared in Silver Bullet, Lucas and License to Drive. His latest completed film credits were New Terminal Hotel and American Sunset.

The city's Social Services division can provide assistance on behalf of deceased city residents whose estates cannot cover funeral costs, though it is not clear whether Mr. Haim would have qualified.
