Slain gay-rights activist Harvey Milk may be commemorated with a pink cloud permanently hovering over the main intersection in the city's Castro district.

"I think Harvey would really be taken by this," Tom Ammiano, Board of Supervisors president, said at a ceremony Wednesday unveiling the two grand-prize winners of a contest to design the Harvey Milk Memorial Plaza. One of the winning designs, by landscape designer Christian Werthmann, features a web of fog-making installations. Pink clouds would levitate over the street.

"The clouds have a very poetic dimension," Mr. Werthmann said. "They can stand for dreams and optimism. To me, the whole gay and lesbian movement is driven by that vision." AP
