Alcan Inc., the world's second-biggest aluminum producer, said it will pursue an alumina project with Alcoa Inc. in Guinea after the dismissal of Mines Minister Alpha Mady Soumah. President Lansana Conte replaced Mady Soumah with Ahmed Tidiane Souare, Agence France-Presse reported last week, citing national radio. Alcan and Alcoa plan to build an alumina refinery in the western Boke region of the West African country. Alumina is used to make aluminum. "The dismissal of the minister does not change our position whatsoever," said Alex Christen, a spokesman for Montreal-based Alcan. AL (TSX) rose 5 cents to $48.10. Bloomberg
