Canadian defender Breanna Boyd was selected eighth overall by the Carolina Courage in the Women's United Soccer Association draft yesterday. The 21-year-old Boyd, a native of Calgary who has 27 caps for Canada, was a first-team academic all-American in her senior year with Nebraska this season. Defender Isabelle Monreau of Montreal had attracted some interest but wasn't selected in the draft. Santa Clara midfielder Aly Wagner was selected first overall by San Diego. Canadians Charmaine Hooper and Karina LeBlanc currently play for the Atlanta Beat while Sharolta Nonen is a member of the Boston Breakers in the eight-team league.
