Alex English will be back on the Toronto Raptors bench next season as an assistant to Jay Triano while Mark Iavaroni is also joining the NBA club as an assistant coach.DAVID ZALUBOWSKI

The Toronto Raptors have reached agreements this morning with Marc Iavaroni and Alex English to join Jay Triano's coaching staff.

Iavoroni is one of the most respected assistant coaches in the NBA with stints working alongside Mike Fratello in Cleveland, Pat Riley in Miami and Mike D'Antoni in Pheonix where Raptors president Bryan Colangelo was general manager.

Iavaroni was most recently the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies but was fired early in the 2008-09 season.

English is the only returning member of last season's coaching staff. An NBA Hall of Famer, English has mentored the Raptors big men.

It appears that Gord Herbert, the former Canadian national team player from British Columbia, added to the staff last season and Mike Evans, who has spent two years on the Raptors bench, will not be returning.

The club is also had preliminary talks with former Raptors guard Alvin Williams about an opportunity as an assistant coach in charge of player development, but no announcement is pending.
