Canada's Teal Bunbury capped an impressive season by winning the MAC Hermann Trophy, U.S. college soccer's version of the Heisman Trophy.
Bunbury, son of former Canadian international Alex Bunbury, won the NCAA Division 1 honour Friday. Kelley O'Hara of Stanford University won the women's award.
Bunbury won the 2009 Mid-American Conference player of the year award in his sophomore season at Akron after leading the NCAA in goals with 17, including five game-winners, and adding five assists.
The 19-year-old also earned Soccer America's Player of the Year honours and led Akron to a penalty shootout defeat to Virginia in the NCAA championship game.
In December, Bunbury, who is also a Canadian youth international, made himself available for the 2010 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is determined in voting by Division 1 soccer coaches.
