Photos of debris and personal effects from the Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 crash in Iran.

In the early morning of Jan. 8, all the passengers and crew members aboard a Ukrainian International Airlines plane that crashed near Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport are confirmed dead by Iranian officials. Iranian photographer Ahmad Halabisaz arrived on the scene shortly after and witnessed the devastation left behind. He captured passengers’ belongings such as laptops, photos, children’s drawings and clothing. The plane crashed hours after Iran launched missile strikes at U.S. bases in Iraq. The United States and Canada, citing intelligence reports, believe Flight 752 was accidentally shot down by Iran’s missile-defence system, which had been switched on to guard against U.S. retaliation for the base strikes. There are questions of whether evidence at the site will be available to international investigators. CBS News reported Friday that its team visited the site briefly and found very little debris was left from Wednesday’s crash, and people – “not officials, but apparent scavengers” – were poring over the scene looking for pieces to take away.
