Once a west-end Winnipeg kid with a big dream, movie actor Adam Beach was honoured by his community when a giant mural of him was unveiled in his old neighbourhood Thursday.

"It's just overwhelming. It's a joy of emotion," said Beach, 31.

Beach starred alongside Nicolas Cage in MGM's Windtalkers in 2002.

The mural, made up of a series of pictures about the young actor's life, was unveiled to a crowd of about 110 schoolchildren, fans and dignitaries.

The mural includes a scene from Windtalkers, and one of Beach with his arm around a street sign showing two intersections -- Agnes Street and Ellice Avenue in Winnipeg, and Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.

Beach now lives in Ottawa with his wife, Tara Mason. CP
