Paintings by Nova Scotia folk artist Joe Norris go on display at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection from Sept. 14 to Nov. 10.

The exhibition, organized by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, includes more than 140 paintings and three-dimensional art depicting the landscape and wildlife of Eastern Canada.

Norris, who died in 1996, worked most of his life in construction and on a variety of public works jobs in Halifax. A heart attack forced him into early retirement at age 49, which led to his new career as an artist. He began painting after receiving a paint set from a visiting nurse and tacked his completed works to the outside of his house.

Gallery admission is $12 for adults, $9 for students and seniors. For more information, visit http://www.mcmichael.com. For savvy, insider's city guides, visit Globetrotter on the Web: http://www.globeandmail.com/globetrotter. lbuhasz@globeandmail.ca
