Tad Seaborn/The Globe and Mail

This week, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, share your lunch with that special someone at the office (perhaps the IT guy who has changed your forgotten password 17 times). Put together some English tea-style sandwiches: They're tender, bite sized and optimal for sharing.

Ingredients

White bread slices

Whipped, full-fat cream cheese

Seedless raspberry jam

Red pepper jelly

Method

Spread the cream cheese on a slice of the softest, freshest white bread you can find. Spread another slice with smooth raspberry jam and make a sandwich. Make another cream cheese batch, but this time use spicy red pepper jelly. Slice them into triangles or rectangles for serving (use a bread knife and portion them just before eating to keep the edges from drying out.) Crusts are a no-no; removing them is traditional but also a thoughtful detail (like moving your legs slightly so the IT guy can crawl under your desk with those cables.) Mix up the flavours on the plate so your lunch mate doesn’t know whether to expect sweet or heat.
