Transocean Secures Major New Ultra-Deepwater Gulf Contracts
Transocean ( (RIG) ) just unveiled an update.
On October 19, 2026, Transocean announced new contract awards for two of its ultra-deepwater drillships operating in the U.S. Gulf, adding about $550 million in firm backlog. The Deepwater Proteus secured a ten-well campaign estimated at 700 days, expected to generate roughly $325 million in backlog and start in the first quarter of 2027, in direct continuation of its current U.S. Gulf work.
The Deepwater Conqueror won a five-well contract in the U.S. Gulf, a 450‑day program expected to contribute about $225 million in backlog, excluding mobilization fees, beginning in the third quarter of 2027 after completing its campaign in Equatorial Guinea. These awards extend utilization of two high-specification drillships, reinforcing Transocean’s revenue visibility and competitive positioning in the ultra-deepwater segment of the offshore drilling market.

Spark’s Take on RIG Stock
According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, RIG is a Neutral.
The score is held back primarily by weak profitability and a sharp TTM revenue pullback, despite strong improvements in operating and free cash flow and a reasonably positioned balance sheet. Technicals are largely neutral-to-soft versus longer-term moving averages, while corporate events (backlog wins and balance-sheet actions) provide a meaningful offset but do not fully compensate for ongoing losses and valuation constraints implied by the negative P/E.
