Alphabet Rebrands A.I. Chatbot As ‘Gemini’

Yolowire - Thu Feb 8, 9:01AM CST

%Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has rebranded its main %ArtificialIntelligence (A.I.) %Chatbot as %Gemini, replacing the former name “Bard.”

The Google parent company said it is making the name change to be consistent with the name of its large-language learning models that are used to train A.I. applications.

The name Bard was originally unveiled with the beta launch of Alphabet’s first A.I. chatbot in March 2023.

Along with the rebrand, Alphabet also announced that it is launching a new mobile version of its A.I. chatbot, as well as a premium paid subscription version called “Gemini Advanced.”

Gemini Advanced will provide users with the most advanced version of Alphabet’s A.I. technology.

On Android devices, Gemini will replace the current Google Assistant function and will be accessible through a press of the power button, a corner swipe, or a voice command.

In a briefing with media, Alphabet executives said that they are working towards building a true A.I. assistant for both consumers and businesses.

Gemini Advanced is priced at $19.99 U.S. a month, including two terabytes of cloud storage that can be shared with family members.

Alphabet said subscribers will be able to use Gemini’s A.I. capabilities in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Meet. The company is now offering a free two-month trial of Gemini Advanced.

The stock of Alphabet has risen 47% over the last 12 months and currently trades at $145.54 U.S. per share.
